Big Data is essentially the collation, curation and analysis of large, disparate data sets, often in real time, to generate a business value. In reality Big Data is a tool for Big Business, for example being used in retail to predict stock requirements based not only on sales but taking into account such influences as the weather and sporting events.
This requires huge sets of data and large investments. So how does it have any relevance in the SME space where data sets are smaller along with budgets?
